How to restart your pool?

Published by Avril de Pool Planet

Getting your pool ready for summer: our tips for a good start to the season. With the arrival of fine weather, it's time to think about getting your pool back into service. As soon as the outside temperature reaches between 12 and 15°C, usually around March or April, conditions are ideal for reopening your pool and enjoying the first rays of sunshine with complete peace of mind.

Depending on the type of winterization you have chosen, the procedure may vary. Here's a complete guide to restarting your pool, whether you've opted for active or passive winterization.

Have you chosen active winterization?

Active winterization consists of maintaining minimal filtration throughout the winter, which greatly facilitates restarting in the spring. Here are the steps to follow to prepare your pool for the summer season:

1. A thorough cleaning

Start with a good cleaning:

  • Scrub the waterline, walls and bottom of the pool.
  • Remove debris with a skimmer net.
  • Use a manual vacuum cleaner or a pool robot to remove impurities accumulated during the winter.

2. Restarting filtration

As soon as the water reaches 12°C, run your filtration system for 6 to 7 hours a day.
Eco tip: To optimize energy consumption, consider a variable speed pump. It automatically adapts the filtration speed to the water temperature, offering an excellent compromise between performance and energy savings.

3. Water analysis and balancing

Check the following parameters:

  • pH (ideal between 7.2 and 7.4)
  • TA (total alkalinity)
  • TH (water hardness)
  • Chlorine or bromine

Adjust if necessary for perfectly balanced, healthy and clear water.

Have you chosen passive winterization?

Passive winterization involves completely stopping filtration and putting the pool into total rest. Restarting therefore requires a little more care.

1. Intensive pool cleaning

After several months without filtration, the water may be dirtier. Thorough cleaning is therefore essential:

  • Use a pool robot to remove debris.
  • Complete with manual cleaning for optimal results.

2. Restarting the filtration system

Restart your system gently:

  • Clean the skimmers.
  • Perform several washes and rinses of the filter to remove accumulated residue.

3. Water analysis and automatic regulation

Test your water parameters with an analysis kit. For simplicity, opt for a connected analyzer such as the Ofix VP, which measures pH, Redox and water temperature. Combined with a dosing pump, it allows automatic and continuous adjustment of parameters.

In summary

Whatever your winterization method, restarting your pool is a key step to fully enjoy the season. By following these tips and equipping yourself with the right tools, you ensure your pool has clean, balanced water ready for the first dips.
