Infinity pools provide a remarkable visual effect in gardens! Their sweeping view of the garden, as beautiful as it is, is also very difficult to manage. Indeed, regulating the water level is a crucial element for these pools. For this reason, we invite you today to discover the different solutions and how an automatic level regulator works.
Infinity Pool and Balance Tank
Infinity pools are always accompanied by a connected balance tank. This balance tank will be essential for regulating the water level (and thus achieving the desired visual effect). This balance tank can contain up to 10% of the total volume of the pool and is where the level sensors will be installed.
The balance tank collects the water that overflows from the pool and then sends it into the filtration circuit. It can be installed next to your main pool (and used as a paddling pool, for example) or all around your pool under wooden decking.
How does a level regulator work?
To manage the water level and overflow, you can opt for an automatic regulator that will manage the level in the pool. The level regulator consists of a control box, level sensors (see below), and accessories such as the solenoid valve and the strainer filter.
The level sensors are installed in the balance tank and consist of different detection "levels." When a level sensor is crossed, the box interprets the information and adjusts the level accordingly.
Features of level regulators
- If the "overflow" sensor is crossed, the box initiates a pool drain, allowing water to be emptied until the optimum water level sensors are reached.
- If the "low water" sensor is above the water level, the box activates the solenoid valve (connected to your water source), which adds water to your pool until the correct level sensors are reached.
- In both cases, to protect the filtration pump, the regulator can choose to stop or force filtration.
The different level sensors
In addition to the control box, each regulator is offered with different level sensors. You can choose to position a gutter with 4 levels or independent probes at different levels in the balance tank.
Advantages of use
Automatic level regulators protect filtration pumps by preventing them from operating when the level is too high or too low. They are also a way to reduce your total annual water bill by optimizing your pool's water level.
Now, if you were hesitant about building an infinity pool, you'll know how to manage it!
