  • Easy to use

The Hayward Star Clear C500 is the benchmark equipment for owners of medium-sized inground pools or large spas. Combining optimal compactness with professional filtration quality of 15 to 20 microns, it guarantees crystal-clear water while drastically reducing water consumption related to maintenance.

Key features of the Star Clear C500 filter

  • Superior filtration: equipped with a high-density polyester cartridge, it captures impurities twice as fine as a standard sand filter, thus limiting the use of treatment products.
  • Anti-corrosion design: its injection-molded PermaGlass XL™ tank offers total resistance to chemical aggressions and salt treatment systems.
  • Water saving: the absence of backwash allows you to save thousands of liters of water per year. Cleaning is simply done by manually rinsing the cartridge.
  • Simplified maintenance: the butterfly handle closure allows secure locking and quick access to the filter element, without any tools.

Unrivaled water purity

With a filtration fineness of 15 to 20 microns, this filter largely surpasses sand systems (40-50 microns). It retains the finest impurities (pollen, dust, algae) to guarantee perfectly clear and healthy water.

Robustness and PermaGlass XL™ Design

Made of PermaGlass XL™, the tank is completely insensitive to corrosion and chemical treatments (chlorine, salt, bromine). It is a durable investment designed to withstand the most difficult conditions in the long term.

Economical and Eco-responsible

  • Zero Backwash: Unlike sand, it requires no backwash. You save thousands of liters of water and avoid releasing chemicals into nature.
  • Compact: Its vertical design is perfect for cramped technical rooms or those without a sewer connection.

Simplified maintenance

Maintenance is quick and requires no tools: simply remove the cartridge and rinse it with a water jet once or twice a season. The butterfly handle facilitates secure opening and closing of the lid.

Why choose the Hayward Star Clear C500?

Investing in a Star Clear C500 means choosing a reliable, durable, and environmentally friendly solution. Thanks to its robust PermaGlass XL™ design and quick maintenance (rinsing the cartridge once or twice a season), this filter offers excellent filtration quality while minimizing maintenance efforts. It's the perfect ally for peaceful swimming in pure water.

Filter location

  1. Although the filter is designed for outdoor use, it is best to protect the pump's electrical components from the elements. The chosen location should have good drainage so that it does not flood when it rains. Place the filter as close to the pool as local regulations allow.
  2. The filtration system should preferably be placed below water level to achieve better pump performance. (Note: the higher the pump, the longer the priming).
  3. Place the filter and pump on firm, horizontal ground. Position the tank to facilitate access to internal components, the drain plug, and the pump. Allow sufficient overhead clearance to easily access the cartridge (see specifications).
  4. Position the filter to facilitate draining.
  5. If possible, place the filter in the shade.

Piping

  1. Use pipes with a nominal diameter of 50 or 63 mm with insert fittings and stainless steel clamps. Connections are 1 1/2" or 2" threaded. If using rigid PVC pipe, install removable union fittings for easy maintenance.
  2. If the filter is below water level, install valves (preferably ball valves) to isolate the filter during cleaning or maintenance. Figure 1 shows the recommended installation.
  3. All piping connections are 1 1/2" or 2" threaded. For connections to the filter, use plastic male-ended adapters. Apply three turns of Teflon to the threads. Hand-tighten the fitting into the thread, then using a wrench, tighten another full turn, if necessary. Do not overtighten.
  4. Connect the suction lines between the skimmer and the pump.
  5. Connect the discharge lines to the pool.
  6. A drain plug is supplied with each system and is sufficient to completely drain the filter. A manual air bleed valve is provided to facilitate the evacuation of trapped air during start-up or draining of the filter. Automatic air bleed (Star Clear 11 and Star Clear Plus only) allows air to be evacuated during filter operation.
  7. All electrical connections must be made according to local regulations.
  8. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for more information on the pump.

FAQ – Cartridge Maintenance and Use

How long does a cartridge last?

With proper maintenance, a cartridge can last between 12 and 24 months, depending on the frequency of pool use and water quality.

How often should the cartridge be cleaned?

It is advisable to clean it as soon as your filter pressure increases by 0.5 bar above its normal operating pressure.

What products should be used for maintenance?

A simple water jet is usually sufficient for routine cleaning. For deep cleaning (to remove grease and scale), use a specific detergent for filter cartridges.

Are these cartridges suitable for saltwater pools?

Yes, they are perfectly compatible with filtration systems for saltwater pools treated by salt electrolysis.

How to choose the right size?

It is essential to check the dimensions (height and diameter) of your current filter. Then select the cartridge that precisely matches your model from the references offered in our catalog.
