The Hayward Star Clear C250 filter is the benchmark equipment for spa owners, above-ground pools, or small in-ground pools. Combining exceptional compactness with professional filtration quality of 15 to 20 microns, it guarantees crystal-clear water while drastically reducing water consumption related to maintenance.

Key features of the Hayward Star Clear filter

  • Superior filtration: equipped with a high-density polyester cartridge, the C250 captures impurities twice as fine as a standard sand filter, thereby limiting the use of treatment products.
  • Anti-corrosion design: the tank is injection-molded in reinforced polymer (V1), offering total resistance to chemical aggressions and salt treatment systems.
  • Water saving: the absence of backwashing allows thousands of liters of water to be saved per year. Cleaning is simply done by manually rinsing the cartridge.
  • Simplified maintenance: the butterfly handle closure allows for secure locking and quick access to the filtering element, without tools.

Unrivaled water purity

With a filtration fineness of 15 to 20 microns, this filter largely surpasses sand systems (40-50 microns). It retains the finest impurities (pollen, dust, algae) to guarantee perfectly clear and healthy water.

Robustness and PermaGlass XL™ Design

Made of PermaGlass XL™, the tank is completely impervious to corrosion and chemical treatments (chlorine, salt, bromine). It is a durable investment designed to withstand the most difficult conditions in the long term.

Economical and Eco-responsible

  • Zero Backwash: Unlike sand, it requires no backwashing. You save thousands of liters of water and avoid discharging chemicals into nature.
  • Compact: Its vertical design is perfect for cramped technical rooms or those without a sewer connection.

Simplified maintenance

Maintenance is quick and requires no tools: simply remove the cartridge and rinse it with a jet of water once or twice per season. The butterfly handle facilitates secure opening and closing of the lid.

Why choose the Hayward Star Clear cartridge filter?

The Hayward Star Clear cartridge filter is a complete solution for those looking for effective, durable, and environmentally friendly pool filtration. Thanks to its filtration fineness of 15 to 20 microns, its corrosion-resistant Permaglass XL design, and its easy maintenance, this filter offers excellent filtration quality while minimizing maintenance efforts.

By choosing the Star Clear filter, you invest in a reliable solution that will allow you to enjoy clear and clean water throughout the season. This filter is an excellent choice for any pool owner wishing to combine performance, durability, and respect for the environment.

Filter Location

  1. Although the filter is designed for outdoor use, it is preferable to protect the pump's electrical components from the elements. The chosen location should have good drainage so that it is not flooded when it rains. Place the filter as close to the pool as local regulations allow.
  2. The filtration system should preferably be placed below the water level to achieve better pump performance. (Note: the higher the pump, the longer it takes to prime).
  3. Place the filter and pump on firm, level ground. Position the tank to facilitate access to internal components, the drain plug, and the pump. Provide sufficient overhead clearance to easily access the cartridge (see specifications).
  4. Position the filter to facilitate draining.
  5. If possible, place the filter in the shade.

Piping

  1. Use pipes with a nominal diameter of 50 or 63 mm with insert fittings and stainless steel clamps. Connections are 1 1/2" or 2" threaded. If using rigid PVC pipe, install removable union fittings to facilitate maintenance.
  2. If the filter is below water level, install valves (preferably ball valves) to isolate the filter during cleaning or maintenance. Figure 1 shows the recommended installation.
  3. All piping connections are 1 1/2" or 2" threaded. For connections to the filter, use plastic male-ended adapters. Apply three turns of Teflon to the threads. Hand-tighten the fitting into the thread, then using a wrench, tighten another full turn, if necessary. Do not over-tighten.
  4. Connect the suction piping between the skimmer and the pump.
  5. Connect the return piping to the pool.
  6. A drain plug is supplied with each system and is sufficient to completely drain the filter. A manual air bleed valve is provided to facilitate the evacuation of trapped air during start-up or draining of the filter. The automatic air bleed (Star Clear 11 and Star Clear Plus only) allows air to be evacuated during filter operation.
  7. All electrical connections must be made according to local regulations.
  8. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for more information on the pump.

FAQ – Filter Cartridge Maintenance and Use

How long does a cartridge last?

With proper maintenance, a cartridge can last between 12 and 24 months, depending on pool usage frequency and water quality.

How often should the cartridge be cleaned?

It is recommended to clean it as soon as your filter pressure increases by 0.5 bar above its normal operating pressure.

What products should be used for maintenance?

A simple jet of water is usually sufficient for routine cleaning. For a thorough cleaning (removing grease and limescale), use a specific detergent for filter cartridges.

Are these cartridges suitable for saltwater pools?

Yes, they are perfectly compatible with filtration systems for saltwater pools treated by salt electrolysis.

How do I choose the correct size?

It is essential to check the dimensions (height and diameter) of your current filter. Then select the cartridge that precisely matches your model from the references offered in our catalog.
