Piccolo PIRF: 12V power box for pool lights with radio remote control included

The CCEI Piccolo PIRF box is the version of the PIMT power box with a radio remote control. Like its counterpart, it includes a 230V/12V toroidal transformer compliant with standard NF EN61558 which lowers the mains voltage to the extra-low safety voltage required for any submerged or poolside lighting. It is available in two power ratings: 100 VA (PIRF 31) for one or two lights up to a cumulative 100W, and 300 VA (PIRF 33) for several lights whose total power does not exceed 300 VA.

What distinguishes the PIRF from the PIMT is the addition of an integrated radio receiver and an ON/OFF radio remote control supplied in the box. With it, you can turn your lights on and off from the poolside — or anywhere within radio range — without having to go to the technical room every time you swim.

Why the radio remote control really changes daily use

In most installations without remote control, turning on pool lights requires a trip to the technical room: you cut the power, turn it back on, and leave — sometimes with wet feet, sometimes in the middle of the night. This is an inconvenience that often discourages the use of lighting, yet it is one of the most enjoyable features in the evening.

With the PIRF, the radio remote control radically changes this scenario. A single press is enough to turn the lights on or off from the deckchair, terrace, or kitchen. The radio receiver is integrated directly into the box, so no additional box needs to be installed or connected. The ON/OFF button on the front of the box remains present in parallel, for direct use from the technical room if needed.

Two versions depending on the total power of the lights

The PIRF 31 (100 VA, ref. PF10B108) is suitable for installations with a single light up to 100W — a 100W PAR56 halogen, a 50W LED light, or two 50W LED lights connected in parallel. This is the version to choose for a pool with a single light point.

The PIRF 33 (300 VA, ref. PF10B109) is sized for several lights with a cumulative power of up to 300 VA. It is suitable for an installation of two to four low-power LED lights, or two 150W halogen lights. To calculate the version suitable for your configuration, simply add the nominal power of each connected light and choose the box whose capacity is greater than or equal to this total.

There is no 600 VA PIRF version: for high-power installations (up to 600 VA), the PIMT 37 version without remote control remains the benchmark.

Features and protection adapted to the pool environment

Both PIRF versions share the same compact box with dimensions 260 × 180 × 80 mm, protected IP55 against water splashes and dust — essential for equipment installed in a pool technical room where humidity is almost constant. The power supply is 230V / 50Hz on the input side, and delivers 12V AC on the output side to the lights. The box comes with cable glands, wall plugs, and mounting screws.

The electrical connection (230V input) must be entrusted to a qualified person, in accordance with standard NF C 15-100 which governs electrical installations in a pool environment. Once wired, daily use via the remote control is accessible to any user without any electrical knowledge.

PIRF or PIMT: how to choose?

If your technical room is easily accessible from the poolside — or if you already integrate remote control via another home automation system — the Piccolo PIMT (without remote control) is the economical solution. If you want maximum ease of use without relying on a third-party system, the PIRF is the obvious choice: the included radio remote control is operational immediately after installation, without complex configuration or pairing. It operates autonomously, independently of your internet box, your Wi-Fi network, or any mobile application.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Piccolo PIRF box with CCEI remote control

What is the difference between the Piccolo PIMT and the Piccolo PIRF box? +

Both boxes perform the same function of converting 230V to 12V AC to power your pool spotlights. The difference lies in the control mode: the Piccolo PIMT only has an on/off button on the front of the box, while the Piccolo PIRF adds a radio ON/OFF remote control to this button, allowing you to turn the spotlights on and off remotely from the poolside. The PIRF therefore offers superior ease of use, without having to go to the technical room to operate the lighting.

How does the Piccolo PIRF radio remote control work? +

The radio remote control supplied with the Piccolo PIRF box is a simple ON/OFF remote control that communicates with the radio receiver integrated into the box. You press the button on the remote control to turn the spotlights on or off, without having to go to the technical room. The radio range varies depending on obstacles (walls, vegetation) but generally reaches several tens of meters in open field, more than enough to control the lighting from the terrace or the poolside. The remote control does not control colors — it only turns them on or off.

Which version to choose between PIRF31 (100W) and PIRF33 (300W)? +

The choice depends on the total cumulative power of your spotlights. The PIRF31 (100W) is suitable for powering one or two low to medium power LED spotlights (e.g. 2 x 40W spotlights). The PIRF33 (300W) is sized for larger installations with several LED spotlights or more powerful halogen spotlights. To size correctly, add up the power of all your spotlights and choose the box whose capacity exceeds this sum by at least 20% to ensure a safety margin and avoid any transformer overload.

Can the remote control be lost or replaced easily? +

The radio remote control for the Piccolo PIRF is an independent external accessory that can indeed be lost or damaged. If this happens, you can order a compatible replacement remote control from CCEI or your reseller. In the meantime, you always retain the ability to turn the spotlights on and off via the ON/OFF button on the front of the box, which ensures continuity of service even if the remote control malfunctions. It is also possible to add several remote controls to the same box if several people wish to control the lighting.

Is the PIRF box compatible with all 12V pool spotlights? +

Yes, the Piccolo PIRF box provides a standard 12V AC output voltage compatible with all 12V LED and halogen pool spotlights, regardless of their brand. It powers CCEI spotlights (Mini-Brio, Gaia, Nikita, PAR56) as well as spotlights from other manufacturers (Hayward, AstralPool, Pentair, etc.). Please note: the remote control only turns the spotlights on and off. If you have RGB color spotlights, you will need to use their own color changing system (power cut, BRiO RC+ system, etc.).

Can the PIRF box be combined with a time programmer to automate lighting? +

Yes, it is entirely possible to install a time programmer upstream of the Piccolo PIRF box on the 230V power supply. The programmer will cut and restore the power supply to the box according to the defined time slot, which will automatically turn the spotlights on and off every day without manual intervention. You also retain the ability to use the radio remote control to temporarily turn off the spotlights outside the programmed time slot, or the button on the front of the box. This combination offers the best compromise between automation and manual control on demand.

Can the PIRF box control color changes of RGB spotlights? +

No, the Piccolo PIRF box is an on/off power and control box only. The radio remote control only allows you to turn the spotlights on or off, but does not control RGB/RGBW color scenarios. To control color changes, you must use either a dedicated BRiO RC+ control box (for compatible spotlights) or Mini-Brio Switch spotlights that change color by successive power cuts. In the latter case, the PIRF remote control can be used to trigger color changes by repeated presses.

Where should the Piccolo PIRF box be installed and what precautions should be taken? +

The Piccolo PIRF box must imperatively be installed outside the safety volumes defined by standard NF C 15-100, i.e., at least 3.5 meters from the edge of the pool, in a technical room or a closed niche. Its IP55 protection protects it against water splashes and dust, but it must not be immersed or directly exposed to powerful water jets. Its compact dimensions of 260 x 180 x 80 mm facilitate its integration into most technical rooms. Be sure to leave ventilation space around the box to dissipate heat generated by the transformer.

What is the range of the Piccolo PIRF radio remote control? +

The range of the radio remote control varies depending on the environment and obstacles between it and the box. In open field without obstruction, it generally reaches several tens of meters, more than enough to control the lighting from the terrace, the living room with bay window, or the poolside. In the presence of concrete walls, dense vegetation, or other electronic equipment generating interference, the range may be reduced. In typical private pool use with the box installed in a technical room 10-20 meters from the pool, the remote control works perfectly.

Is an electrician required to install the Piccolo PIRF box? +

Any intervention on the 230V electrical network of a swimming pool must comply with NF C 15-100 standard which imposes strict electrical safety rules in aquatic environments. The installation of the Piccolo PIRF box requires a connection to the 230V electrical panel and must be carried out by a qualified electrician, or by a knowledgeable DIY enthusiast who perfectly masters electrical standards. The box comes with cable glands, dowels and fixing screws to facilitate mechanical assembly. Once installed, daily use via the remote control or the front button is within everyone's reach.
