CCEI Stainless Steel Level Probe: An Essential Spare Part for Your Pool Level Controller

The water level controller is a key piece of equipment for maintaining a stable water line in your pool. Whether it's a skimmer pool or an overflow pool with a surge tank, the level probe is the component that detects the presence or absence of water and transmits the information to the control box. This CCEI stainless steel level probe, supplied with 6 meters of cabling, is the original spare part compatible with NIVA 3, NIVA 5, Lineo 5S, CRBTRN, and CRNSE control boxes.

Made of stainless steel, it resists corrosion caused by chlorine, bromine, and salt, making it perfectly suited for pools equipped with a salt chlorinator. Its operating principle is based on electronic detection by contact or capacitance variation: when the probe is immersed, it closes a circuit that informs the control box that the water level is correct. When the level drops and the probe is exposed to air, the control box orders the filling solenoid valve to open.

Why Replace a Faulty Level Probe?

A worn, fouled, or damaged probe cable can cause significant malfunctions in water level management. Among the most common symptoms are continuous filling that overflows the pool, a complete lack of filling that exposes the filtration pump to dry running, or erratic opening and closing cycles of the solenoid valve. In all cases, replacing the probe with an original CCEI part restores reliable and accurate operation of the controller.

A water level that is too low causes air intake at the skimmer, which makes the filtration pump cavitate and can irreversibly damage it. Conversely, a level that is too high reduces the effectiveness of surface skimming and wastes water. The proper functioning of the probe is therefore directly linked to the protection of your equipment and the quality of filtration.

Compatibility with CCEI Control Boxes

This stainless steel level probe is referenced as SE-1 at CCEI and can be installed on all CCEI multi-probe level control boxes. The NIVA 3 (ref. PF10L009) uses 3 probes to manage filling and pump protection for skimmer pools. The NIVA 5 (ref. PF10L008) uses 5 to control filling and overflow for overflow pools with a surge tank. The CRBTRN (ref. PF10L011) performs the same functions with a more compact control box design. The Lineo 5S and CRNSE complete the range with configurations adapted to other types of installations. In all cases, the SE-1 probe is interchangeable between models.

Caution: This probe is not compatible with the RNS-2 control box, which uses a specific 3-point probe (ref. SE-3) with a 10-meter cable. Check the exact model of your control box before ordering.

Installation and Setup

The probe is fixed in the skimmer or in the surge tank, depending on your pool configuration. It is positioned on a mounting rail that is screwed or glued inside the relevant water feature. The 6-meter cable connects the probe to the control box installed in the technical room. If the distance between the detection point and the technical room exceeds 6 meters, it is possible to extend the cable with an extension of suitable cross-section, ensuring waterproof connections.

When replacing a faulty probe, it is recommended to cut off the power supply to the control box before intervening. Disconnect the old probe, connect the new one by observing the wire markings, then re-power the control box and check the proper functioning of the filling cycle.

Maintenance and Lifespan

CCEI stainless steel probes have no moving mechanical parts, which gives them a particularly long lifespan, generally 10 to 15 years under normal use. Periodic cleaning of the probe tip with diluted white vinegar helps remove any scale or biofilm deposits that could impair detection sensitivity. Also check the condition of the cable and connections to the control box at the beginning of each season, especially after winterization.

Pool Planet offers this probe individually for the occasional replacement of a faulty probe, as well as in a pack of 5 to replace all probes of a NIVA 5 or CRBTRN control box in a single operation.

Frequently Asked Questions about the CCEI Stainless Steel Level Probe

Which CCEI control boxes is this probe compatible with? +

This SE-1 stainless steel level probe is compatible with the following CCEI control boxes: NIVA 3 (ref. PF10L009), NIVA 5 (ref. PF10L008), Lineo 5S, CRBTRN (ref. PF10L011) and CRNSE. It is interchangeable from one model to another within this range.

Is this probe compatible with the RNS-2 control box? +

No, the RNS-2 control box uses a specific 3-point probe referenced SE-3 with a 10-meter cable. The SE-1 probe sold here is not interchangeable with the SE-3. Please check the exact model of your control box before ordering.

Why is the probe made of stainless steel? +

Stainless steel resists corrosion caused by chlorine, bromine, and salt. This is a particularly important choice for pools equipped with a salt chlorinator, where an ordinary material would corrode quickly. Stainless steel guarantees a lifespan of 10 to 15 years or more in normal use.

How do I know if my level probe is faulty? +

Several symptoms can indicate a probe at the end of its life: continuous filling that overflows the pool, a complete absence of filling despite a low level, or erratic opening and closing cycles of the solenoid valve. If the wiring and connections to the control box are in good condition, it is likely that the probe needs to be replaced.

Is the 6-meter cable sufficient for my installation? +

The 6-meter cable is suitable for the majority of domestic installations where the skimmer or buffer tank is located near the technical room. If the distance is greater, it is possible to extend the cable with an appropriately sized extension cord, ensuring that watertight connections are made and protected from moisture.

Where should I install the probe in my pool? +

For skimmer pools (NIVA 3), the probe is attached inside the skimmer on a mounting rail, at the height corresponding to the desired water level. For overflow pools (NIVA 5, CRBTRN), the probes are placed in the buffer tank at different heights to detect filling thresholds, overflow, and low water safety.

Do I need to turn off the power before replacing the probe? +

Yes, it is imperative to turn off the power supply to the control box before any intervention on the probe. Disconnect the old probe, connect the new one, following the wire markings, then re-power the control box and check the proper functioning of the filling cycle.

How to maintain the CCEI stainless steel level probe? +

Periodic cleaning of the probe tip with diluted white vinegar helps eliminate scale or biofilm deposits that may affect detection. Also check the condition of the cable and connections to the control box at the beginning of each season, especially after winterization.

What is the difference between buying 1 probe or the pack of 5? +

The single probe is ideal for the occasional replacement of a single faulty probe. The pack of 5 probes allows you to replace all the probes in a NIVA 5 or CRBTRN control box in a single operation, which is recommended if your installation is several years old and you want to start fresh with a reliable basis for the entire detection system.

Does the probe work with salt treatment? +

Yes, the CCEI stainless steel probe is specifically designed to resist saline environments. Pools equipped with a salt chlorinator are particularly demanding for submerged components, and the stainless steel used by CCEI guarantees total resistance to corrosion, even with high salt concentrations.
